Like we said, we LOVE Halloween and we are SUPER crafty. So we got creative and made our own Halloween Tie Dye T-shirts and onesies for our kids. We wrote down all the steps in case you want to try too! And there's a how-to video tutorial at the end.
What you'll need:
3. Prewashed White Shirts (I used this one.)
5. Rubber bands
6. Iodized Salt
Okay. Now that you've gotten all your items ready, you'll need to fill your pot about 3/4 of the way full. I used an 8 qt. size. Heat the water so it's very hot but don't boil. Add about 1 cup of salt. Stir well. Next add the Rit Dye in Tangerine. I used about 3/4 of the bottle. Stir together and set aside.
Next, you're going to twist your shirts starting from the center and move outward. Once you have it all twisted into a circle hold it tight and secure together with a rubber band.
Next drop the tied shirts into the large pot. Stir around a bit. Then place the soaked shirts into a large ziploc bag. Leave for 30 to 60 minutes. The longer you leave them, the darker the orange will be.
Remove the shirts and squeeze out extra water. Remove rubber band and rinse out in cold water. Next wash on cold cycle and then dry completely. The color will be a lot lighter than before washing. If you want a darker orange, then leave to soak longer.
Once the shirts are completely dry, get your flocked letters and iron on whatever you'd like your shirt to say. Place the letters onto your shirt and place freezer paper on top. Place your iron onto the paper. Make sure the steam is off and hold down on the iron pressing firmly.
Pull up on your iron, and ta-da! You've got a cute and personalized shirt for halloween! Let us know if you have any questions!!
